O'Dea vs Bainbridge - Game Recap
The O’Dea Fighting Irish deliver the Bainbridge Spartan’s first conference loss of the season in a surprising 16-4 beat down at Bainbridge High School on Tuesday night. Story by Michael Thornbloom.
The Fighting Irish ran away with this game early putting up eight goals to Bainbridge’s one in the first half. Senior midfielder Sam Dracobly had a staple game for the season with six unassisted goals as he terrorized a Spartan squad that had zero answers. Junior attackman Ben Luke and senior midfielder Cole Daninger complimented this impressive performance with four goals each, accounting for have their teams final score.
It was beginning to seem clear that Bainbridge lost a lot of motivation going into the second half allowing O’Dea to double their score over the course of the final 24 minutes. Spartan junior attackman Merritt McMahon was able to secure a hat-trick before the fourth quarter marking his eighth game this season with three or more goals. With a player like this, Bainbridge fans have nothing to worry about moving forward.
Spartan senior goalie Charlie Shrout (0.682 Sv%) sat on the bench for this game. Bainbridge has been evenly splitting the goalie position this year, possibly to give sophomore goalie Dawson Friers (0.551 Sv%) the experience he needs to lead this defense once Shrout graduates. Friers faired well in their first match-up with the Irish a couple weeks ago coming away with a 0.619 save percentage but suffered a rough game saving only a third of the shots on goal. O’Dea was highly energetic throughout the game as they punished the Spartan’s defense and rained shots on the poor sophomore goalie.
Bainbridge moves to 4-1 and will have a chance to redeem themselves against the Seattle Prep Panthers (4-0) on Thursday at Lower Woodland #7. This will be their first match of the year together and historically it has always been an electric one. O’Dea moves to (3-2) with a much needed win to put them over 500. They will try to sweep a struggling Eastside Catholic Crusader team (1-3) on the road this Thursday.
